This report is the product of
the first stage of this research process, which was funded in part by
Wildlife Habitat Canada. Using habitat data gathered by Marsh
Monitoring Program volunteer surveyors, BSC staff have collaborated
with other researchers to determine habitat associations and
preference of both individual marsh bird species and suits of species.
Ongoing research will refine the predictive capacity of MMP data to
estimate types, composition and amount of marsh habitat preferred by
single and groups of marsh bird species. The ultimate goal of this
research is to be able to develop prescriptive marsh habitat
management guidelines to benefit guilds of marsh bird species as well
as single species of special conservation concern.
